Purpura: The Purple Fish (Crocus)

Purpura: The Purple Fish (Crocus)

This happy crocus painting was so popular, Jean decided to make it one of the first images from the Flower Spirit Collection to be released as a giclee print. The colors are vibrant and alive, and the attention to detail is remarkable. Detail, in fact, is one of the most prominent qualities in all of Jean ’s watercolors. From this crocus fish emanates the wonderful exhilaration of spring, and the surge of energy we all feel when we see the first flowers appear.

As you might imagine, the life of the crocus originates in the bulb. It spends much of the year below the ground and only shows us beautiful, colorful flowers for a short time in spring. For this reason, the crocus is a plant associated with the earth elemental. Depicting that subterranean life is the Discus, a showy fish. It is not surprising that such a happy and colorful bouquet should emerge from the awakening of the earth elementals after a long rest underground.
