The Cherokee Singing Trees Drum

The Cherokee Singing Trees Drum

The Singing Trees Drum was created for a musician who wanted his drum to help him connect with his Native American ancestry. It is based on the Cherokee Creation Myth. In the myth, all life emerged from the water. During the time of the creation, most animal and plant life slept, only to awake in time to move onto their new home. But five trees stayed awake during the creation time, and they are among the most important plants in Cherokee medicine and ceremony. These trees are depicted on the drum. Other elements of the image include the spiraling water in seven rays, the four directions, and totem animals.
