This drum is based on the Cherokee medicinal plant tradition. One aspect of that tradition is the understanding of the power of the four directions.
Each direction carries with it a special power and quality. The plants found in the herbal medicinal tradition have properties which correspond to the directions, and thereby are conducive to the healing of specific ailments. It is a very old tradition and has been carried on throughout the generations.
