Angel Trumpet Vine and the Bird

This hand painted Nature Spirit drum depicts the Angel Trumpet Vine, which is native to Central America, but has naturalized in warmer climates as well. It can grow into a small tree and has enormous, fragrant blossoms. It is one of the most impressive plants in all of nature.

Early explorers noted its use by Inca priests in ceremonies at the Temple of the Sun. The scent of these blossoms is highly alluring and pervasive, making the plant a greatly prized treasure among collectors. The shamans of Central and South America refer to the plant as Huaca or plant of the tomb, since during its ritual use, it is believed to reveal the location of treasures buried in such places.

From time immemorial, shamans have used the Angel Trumpet plant as a bridge to cross from nature realms into ethereal, spirit realms where they conduct their healing work. Shamans in Columbia refer to this plant as the Eagle Plant since its use can promote a feeling of soaring and brings to mind the ever watching eye of the eagle.
